Looking for a price on a JD4200 Hydro. I have talked to a few dealers in MI and have been told that the 4200, with a 420 loader, 60" Mid Deck mower, turf tires and 6' rear blade. $21200 with tax(6%). They also told me that it would take 6 to 8 weeks to order(More like 6 - 8 mo from what I'm reading). I also am looking at the 4100 with the same options for around $17,200. Im not sure what to buy. I have 4 acres, (3 grass and 1 pond). All comments appreciated.

In June 1999 I purchased a 4100 HST w/60" mid mount mower deck for $14,000 + tax. I purchased a 58" tiller from TSC for $1000 + tax, and a 410 loader for $2,200 + tax. I only have 1 1/4 acres to maintain and the 4100 was probably overkill but I fell in love with the machine. To answer your question, I got the 4100 HST w/60" mid mower deck and 410 loader for $16,200 + tax or $17,172 after Michigan tax. That did not include the 6' rear blade. I would say that if you can get the 4100 HST w/60" deck, 410 loader, and 6' rear blade for $17,200 after tax, that is a very good deal. I bought the tractor and deck from D&G in Mason and the loader from Bader in St. Louis. ....

I've a 4100 HST, loader, flail mower, and loads more. I've two acres and love this machine. My dealer's advice has been absolutely true--it does anything the big machines do (except for the backhoe), it just takes longer. For me, it is FAST, but I did everything by hand or foot before. Consider your use though, mine is for ag use, not cutting grass. The flail mower cuts fields, weeds and branches exceptionally fast, but I use it more for earth work. As for availability, despite all the "unavailability woes" I've seen here, a larger dealer may have it. I got mine in April in less than 7 days, and I've always seen one or two of each model on the lot when visiting my dealer (Sacramento area). Mine would have come sooner but I wanted the HST, and plumbing to the rear. No matter what you decide, they're absolutely fun to work with. Best of luck. ....
